How to Make Your Own iPhone Ringtones

Do you have some troubles in making your own iPhone ringtones as you're tired with the default ringtones in iPhone? Or are you so crazy for some music or song but have no idea about how to make it as your ringtone? Surely you can make it but have to pay for it from iTunes. Good news now. You can create your own iPhone ringtones for free. Here we provide you step-by-step guide about how to make your own iPhone ringtones.

Notes: This tutorial works for all iOS devices including iPhone 6s Plus/6s/6 Plus/6/5s/5c, iPad Pro/mini 3/Air 2/mini 2/Air and doesn't need to jailbreak your device.

Part 1. Make iPhone Ringtones via iTunes

Download and install the latest version of iTunes beforehand.

1. Launch iTunes on Your Computer
First thing first, make sure that iTunes is installed on your computer and add music files from computer to the Library.

2. Choose the Songs You Want and Get Info
In the added song list of "My Music", right click the songs you want and choose "Get Info".

3. Pick Audio Clip of the Songs
In the "Get Info" options, choose "Options" and you will see the "Start" and "Stop" choices. Just play and pick up an audio clip in 30 seconds that you like. Then, click "OK".

4. Create AAC Version
Then, in the iTunes Library, right click the songs you want and click "Create AAC Version" in the drop down list as shown in the below interface.

5. Show the Song in Windows Explorer
Right click the 30-second tone and click "Show in Windows Explorer" and you will be guide to the folder which has the tone you just add included.

Change M4A to M4R

When seeing the interface above, change the suffix from .m4a to .m4r. .m4r is a compatible format to be played on iPhone, iPad and iPod.

6. Add and Play the Tone on iTunes
After that, play the ringtone and it will be automatically added to iTunes. Or you can also drag and drop it into the iTunes interface manually. And then, you can find it in the "Tone" category.

7. Sync Tones to iPhone 6s/6s Plus/6/6 Plus/5s/5/4s
Connect your iPhone, iPhone 6s Plus for example, and then you will be shown the device icon. Just choose "Tones" and tick the tones you want to sync and "Apply" it.

8. Set Ringtones on iPhone
Now, it's time to set ringtones on iPhone. Hold your iPhone in hand and tap on "Settings" > "Sounds" > "Ringtone" and choose the tone and click "Store" as the third interface below shows.

Part 2. Add Ringtones to iPhone with iPhone Transfer

1. Connect iPhone to Computer with USB Cable
First you must download, install and run the software on computer. Then connect iPhone to computer via USB cable. Later your iPhone will be recognized quickly.

2. Add Ringtone to iPhone and Move Audio Files to M4R Ringtone
In this step, you should tap "Media" > "Ringtone" > "Add". After doing these steps, you have brougth up the file browser window and open the folder.  Finally, Click "Open" to add media files to iPhone.

3. Make a Custom iPhone Ringtone on iPhone
When you added your custom ringtone on iPhone successfully, you should go to tap "Settings" > "Sounds" > "Ringtone" and select the ringtone on iPhone. After setting, all the custom ringtones will be shown on top of the ringtone list.
